On Sept. 3, Google Chrome Security Vulnerability

http://www.ghacks.net/2008/09/03/google-chrome-security-vulnerability/

Now this did not take long. Only one day after releasing a first public beta version of Google Chrome researchers at Kaspersky discovered (Thanks Neil for sending the tip) a security vulnerability that combines a security flaw in Webkit, the browser engine used by Google Chrome, with a Java bug. Apple fixed the vulnerability in Safari back in July after two months of doing nothing about it and it will be interesting to see how fast Google will react to the security vulnerability.

The reason why this vulnerability is still working in Google Chrome is because Google has been using an older version of Webkit for their browser’s core. First of all, users without Java on their computers are completely safe. Users with Java and Chrome installed should read on.

The problem is serious but requires the user’s action to be triggered. If the user clicks on a specifically prepared download the file downloads and executes itself automatically without further user input.

Security expert Aviv Raff has setup a demo website that demonstrates the vulnerability in Google Chrome. The demonstration page provides a download button which will download and execute a Java file immediately without further user interaction. This demo only opens a notepad application but serious harm could be done with such an exploit.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. It has one box for everything: Type in the address bar and get suggestions for both search and web pages. Will give you thumbnails of your top sites; Access your favorite pages instantly with lightning speed from any new tab.

Google Chrome is an open source web browser developed by Google. Its software architecture was engineered from scratch (using components from other open source software including WebKit and Mozilla Firefox) to cater for the changing needs of users and acknowledging that today most web sites aren’t web pages but web applications. Design goals include stability, speed, security and a clean, simple and efficient user interface.

The Thinking Blog Award

Too many blogs, not enough thoughts!”

Thanks to Belle who tagged me on this one!

There are a lot of blogs these days filled with their own unique individual styles, yet there are a few that stands out from the rest. These are the ones that are not only unique, but also open, bluntly honest and informative – both in terms of knowledge itself and diverse point of views about the many aspects of life.

These are the give Indonesian blogs that makes me come back for more:

Mas Jeff

I like Mas Jeff’s blog because he shares a lot of information about up-to-date stuff, often scientific knowledge; his harmonious family and lots of pictures of his kids – they are so cute. Mas Jeff is currently undertaking his disseration in Australia, so we are in the same boat Mas! Keep writing ya Mas.

Belle

Since the very first time I knew Belle, I fell in love – madly! Although she is relatively young, her point of views are oftn very inspirational to me. Her journal is naive, open and blunt – and this is why I visit and read her entries. Young, beautiful and smart, she is a phd student in Australia. Thank you darlink for sharing so many positive things – success always.

Frater Rethar

Frater Rethar is currently studying Theology in the USA. His writing is real and down-to-earth, always honest. Reading his blog gives me a warm feeling – it is nice to read writings that are so realistic, sensible and straight forward.

Ricorea

He is very unique. I like reading his blog because he is very diligent in discussing the topic of interest, right down to the little-st details – from love, songs to film, from critics to injustice, everything is covered including references! You are definitely very diligent bro!

Mas Priyadi

Well, with this blog, I like it because the postings are always very different. There are always different ideas from techonology to politics and economy; only love is rarely discussed here hehe. Should I teach him to talk about love? I like reading Mas Pri’s blog because it always adds to my knowledge bank, simply because all his postings are complete with references from all relevant sources.

So there goes the five blogs that I have tagged. Of course, there are a lot of other blogs that have been memorable, but I only have 5 chances, so these are all I chose. Congratulations.
